Who are CIGA?

The Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) provides independent 25 year guarantees for Cavity Wall Insulation fitted by registered installers in the UK and Channel islands. The standard Guarantee covers traditionally constructed residential property, although a CIGA Commercial Guarantee is also available to owners of qualifying non residential property.

The Government regards cavity wall insulation as the most effective energy savings measure that most people can carry out on their homes and a major contributor to reducing emissions of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas. The Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency was established in 1995 after consultation with the Government’s Energy, Environment and Waste Directorate (a division of DETR) to provide householders with an independent, uniform and dependable guarantee covering defects in materials and workmanship.

Independent research has confirmed that cavity wall insulation is a very reliable process. Problems are therefore extremely rare, but if they do occur, CIGA has the expertise to ensure that they are swiftly rectified.

All members installers of CIGA are assessed for competence and must follow the technical guidance for the material used and CIGA Best Practice Guidance. A summary of the requirements that members must meet and their obligations can be reviewed  here.

Certified members of CIGA can apply for TrustMark Registration, allowing them to demonstrate their commitment to the highest professional standards.

Who are TrustMark?

TrustMark is the Government Endorsed Quality Scheme, covering work a consumer chooses to have carried out in their home. When a homeowner uses a TrustMark Registered Business, they know they are engaging an organisation that has been thoroughly vetted to meet required standards, and who is committed to good customer service, technical competence and trading practices.

The TrustMark scheme was chosen as the route to provide homeowners with reassurance and protection from rogue traders, and as such it is the only Government endorsed scheme for domestic trades.

The scheme is underpinned by the Framework Operating Requirements, a robust Customer Charter and Code of Conduct that member companies must follow and ensures that they are working to the highest standards. TrustMark members are subject to initial and ongoing assessment and surveillance visits to check that they continue to meet all of the requirements.
