Evolve sponsors local golf hero

It was an un-fore-gettable few days at Tenby Golf Club as Evolve-sponsored Harry Watkins secured a commendable victory at the Welsh Men’s Open Stroke Play Championship. The competition saw 110 golfers gather in all weathers for the four-day event but none seemed deterred as they competed for the coveted cup.

Representing the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, Watkins faced off against players from across Europe, including members of his own club and the Welsh international team, but held his nerve across all three rounds. He finished with a superb score of 14-under.

The up-and-coming golf star said it feels “surreal” to win the competition under such close circumstances but chalked his success up to the backing he receives from friends, family and fans: “I always had good support around me reminding me I am good enough to get across the line”.

Dan Fullager, manager for Wales Golf Competitions, said he was impressed with Watkins’ return to Wales Golf events & the turnout of Welsh players generally: “It was great to see such a strong Welsh performance across the board in a field which included plenty of top players from around the UK and Europe.”
