Save Money With GBIS

Are you looking to make your home more energy-efficient while saving money? The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is designed to help homeowners like you achieve just that. Thanks to a £1 billion government initiative, you can enjoy substantial savings on your energy bills while contributing to a greener planet.

What is GBIS?

Launched in 2023, GBIS aims to enhance the warmth and comfort of energy-inefficient homes across the UK. Running until 2026, this scheme offers millions of eligible households free or heavily subsidised loft or cavity wall insulation. By reducing heat and energy wastage, GBIS helps you save around £300 annually on energy bills, with potential savings rising to £520 for larger homes

Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) Eligibility

The biggest barrier for many is the belief that they aren’t eligible. Here’s the good news – eligibility is broader than you might think!

Save around £300* per year on your energy bills by making your home more energy efficient with loft or cavity wall insulation, funded through the government’s new Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS).

Key Benefits of GBIS

  • Substantial Savings: By investing in energy-efficient solutions, homeowners can enjoy significant long-term reductions on their energy bills. These savings contribute to overall household budgets and allow families to allocate funds to other essential areas of their lives, leading to improved financial stability and peace of mind. Over time, these savings can accumulate, resulting in a substantial amount that can be redirected toward savings, education, or even leisure activities.
  • Environmental Impact: Making conscious choices to reduce energy consumption can profoundly affect our planet. You actively participate in the fight against climate change by significantly decreasing your carbon footprint. This commitment to a more sustainable lifestyle benefits the environment and inspires others in your community to consider their impact, fostering a collective movement towards sustainability.
  • Improved Comfort: Investing in insulation and energy-efficient upgrades enhances the thermal comfort of your home, keeping it cosy in the winter and cool in the summer. This improved comfort creates a more pleasant living environment for you and your family, ultimately contributing to a better quality of life. Additionally, energy efficiency means fewer temperature fluctuations and reduced reliance on heating and cooling systems, leading to a more consistent and enjoyable indoor atmosphere.
  • Job Creation: Supporting the move towards energy efficiency also has positive economic implications. By investing in insulation and construction projects, you are directly contributing to local economies. This investment creates job opportunities in various sectors, from skilled labour in insulation installation to roles in manufacturing energy-efficient materials. As demand for these services grows, so does the potential for sustainable employment in your community.
  • Increased Property Value: Upgrading your home with improved energy efficiency measures can significantly boost its marketability and overall value. Prospective buyers are increasingly looking for energy-efficient features, and homes with lower energy costs and a smaller environmental impact are often more appealing. This enhances your property’s worth and positions it favourably in a competitive real estate market, ensuring a better return on investment if you decide to sell in the future.

Cavity Wall Insulation

Around 33%* of a home’s heat is lost through uninsulated cavity walls. By having insulation professionally installed into the space between your home’s two layers of brick, you will save energy and reduce your heating bills.

You can expect to save around £300* per year on your energy bill (based on a gas-heated semi-detached home) rising to £520* per year (based on a gas-heated detached home).

Loft Insulation

In an uninsulated home, 25%* of the heat is lost through the roof. Insulating your loft is a great way to keep warmth inside your home, save energy and reduce heating bills. Loft insulation installed by Evolve is the best quality and will last for over 40 years with no loss of efficiency.

You can expect to save around £285* per year on your energy bill (based on a gas-heated semi-detached home) rising to £475* per year (based on a gas-heated detached home).

Where does the funding come from?

The funding comes from energy companies (such as Octopus Energy or Scottish Power) who are obligated by the government to use their profits to make UK homes more energy efficient, easier to keep warm and less expensive to heat. It’s known as the Energy Company Obligation (or ECO for short) and we are in the fourth phase of it known as ECO4. The Great British Insulation Scheme is a part of the wider ECO scheme in the UK.

What if I don’t qualify for this scheme?

Please get in touch, there might be other sources of funding, or special offers, that could work for you.

How do I find my EPC rating?

Easy, simply go to https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate and enter your address. If the property has a valid EPC you’ll be able to view it online.

How do I find my Council Tax band?

You can check your bill or go online to https://www.gov.uk/council-tax-bands, enter your postcode and your property’s banding can be viewed (A-I in Wales; A-H in England).

I rent privately, do I qualify?

Private renters are eligible for the Great British Insulation Scheme, you just need to have the permission of your landlord for the upgrade and meet the qualifying criteria (group 1 or group 2).

I live in social housing, do I qualify?

The Great British Insulation Scheme isn’t currently open to those living in social housing, but there are other schemes available under the UK’s ECO scheme. Please give us a call and we may still be able to help, alternatively speak to your housing association and they may be able to signpost to ways to upgrade your home.

Will I have to pay anything?

There may be a small contribution in the minority of cases but this would only be known once the Home Energy Assessment has been completed. Generally, this is a completely free of charge opportunity, where costs are covered by Great British Insulation Scheme funding.

Who will install the insulation?

The insulation will be installed by Evolve’s experienced, professional crews following a Home Energy Assessment.

What insulation can I get?

Loft or cavity wall insulation, both of which can dramatically improve a home’s energy efficiency and comfort levels.
