Solar Thermal Solutions

Installing a solar thermal system (or solar water heating) uses energy from the sun to heat water. Once the water is heated it is stored in a hot water cylinder until you need it.

In sunny months you can expect free hot water for you and your family for around 90%* of the time, and in the winter it will provide around 25%*, so a backup is needed such as a boiler or heat pump. Solar thermal systems are an excellent way to introduce a sustainable way of living into your home.

Cut your bills

Savings from a solar thermal system will vary from month to month with the British weather, but a good guide is that 50% of your hot water requirements across the whole year will be free. That’s around 90% in the summer and 25% in the winter.

Book a home visit and as part of our advice, we’ll be able to accurately calculate the figures for your property and occupants.

Cost & funding

As an accredited installer, we have access to various pots of funding that can make solar thermal systems FREE or low-cost for you. The funding comes from places such as energy companies, local authorities and government.

We’ll check what you’re entitled to when you contact us.

Anyone that wants to live more sustainably should consider solar thermal panels to provide hot water. If your roof is south-facing it is an even better idea. Roofs that face south-west and south-east can also perform very well too.

How solar thermal works

Solar thermal systems use panels, or ‘collectors’ fitted to your roof. The panels contain tubes, filled with glycol, that collect energy from the sun’s rays and use it to heat up water that is stored in a water cylinder. When you turn on a hot tap, run a bath or take a shower, the water will come from your solar water cylinder.
