What is cavity wall cleaning & extraction?
Cavity wall cleaning involves the removal of debris, rubble, and other blockages from the cavity spaces between the outer and inner walls of a property. This process is critical to maintaining the integrity and functionality of your cavity walls. Over time, debris can accumulate within these cavities due to construction activities, deterioration of materials, or poor initial construction practices. Learn more about the key steps in cavity wall cleaning:
1. Inspection:
- A thorough inspection using a borescope to assess the state of the cavity walls.
- Identification of blockages, debris, and potential sources of moisture penetration.
2. Debris Removal:
- Use of specialised equipment to extract debris without damaging the cavity walls.
- Ensuring all materials, including old insulation, rubble, and other obstructions, are removed.
3. Cleaning
- Comprehensive cleaning of the cavity to eliminate residual dust and particles.
- Enhancing the cavity’s ability to insulate and protect against moisture.
4. Re-Inspection
- Follow-up inspection to ensure the cavity is fully cleared and no issues remain.
- Providing homeowners with a detailed report of the findings and work completed.
Why is cavity wall cleaning beneficial?
Cavity wall cleaning is an essential maintenance task that can significantly enhance the efficiency of your home insulation. Removing debris and accumulated dirt from the cavity wall space ensures that the insulation performs optimally, keeping your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Explore the many benefits of cavity wall cleaning:
Prevents Damp Issues
- Debris in cavity walls can act as a bridge for moisture, allowing it to penetrate your home’s interior walls.
- Dampness can lead to mould growth, which poses health risks and can damage wall finishes and furnishings.
Maintains Property Value
- Clean cavity walls contribute to the overall health of your property.
- Preventing damp and structural issues helps maintain and even increase your home’s value.
Improves Occupant Well-being
- A dry home is a healthy home. Eliminating damping issues can improve indoor air quality and reduce respiratory problems.
- Ensuring your home is free from mould and moisture creates a more comfortable living environment.
Enhances Insulation Efficiency
- Clear cavities optimise the effectiveness of any existing or new insulation.
- This can lead to lower energy bills and a more sustainable home by reducing the energy required for heating and cooling.
Reasons why cavities become blocked
Our team can successfully clear all cavities, from top to bottom, of debris, using specialist equipment to blow compressed air into the cavity, forcing any present materials out into an industrial vacuum which collects the waste.
We can then either leave you with clean, clear cavities or fill them with our state-of-art bonded-bead cavity wall insulation. Either way, your cavities must not have debris in them.
