Understanding cavity extraction & clearance

Cavity walls are designed to be free of debris so that moisture cannot use the debris as a bridge to penetrate the internal walls of your home. However, in some cases, cavity walls are full of debris, rubble or other blockages which allows moisture into the interior of homes, causing damp problems.

It’s vital to a property’s condition that cavities are clear; damp can cause significant long term issues and blocked cavity walls are a key reason damp occurs. Of course, the exception to clear cavities is if the cavities are filled with a suitable, professionally installed cavity wall insulation.

Costs & funding

As an accredited contractor for cavity extraction and cleaning, we have access to various pots of funding that can make cavity extraction or cleaning FREE or very low-cost for you. Often you also need to be having cavity wall insulation installed by us too. The funding comes from places such as energy companies, local authorities, and housing associations.

We’ll check what you’re entitled to when you contact us.

Reasons why cavities become blocked

Our team can successfully clear all cavities, from top to bottom, of debris, using specialist equipment to blow compressed air into the cavity, forcing any present materials out into an industrial vacuum which collects the waste.

We can then either leave you with clean, clear cavities or fill them with our state-of-art bonded-bead cavity wall insulation. Either way, your cavities must not have debris in them.

  • Debris was left in the cavity at the point of construction
  • Debris got in during building work such as fitting new windows, an extension or adding a conservatory
  • Debris got in during improvements such as a new boiler or adding vents
  • Animal activity
  • Previously installed cavity wall insulation has failed in some way: been damaged by the weather, slumped, incorrectly installed, fire or flood damage for example
