Evolve attends NEA Cymru Conference in Cardiff
It was an informative day in Cardiff for Alan Plumridge (Partnerships Director), Mike Kelly (Operations & Commercial Director) and Laura Hannant (Marketing Director) at National Energy Action Cymru’s annual conference on Thursday 7th March 2024.
As always, the guest list was impressive, with key decision-makers from the industry, Welsh Government and UK Government present, including Jane Hutt MS (Minister for Social Justice and Chief Whip), Dr Sumina Azam (National Director of Policy & International Health, Public Health Wales), Rhiannon Phillips (Head of Domestic Energy Efficiency & Fuel Poverty, Welsh Government) and Andrej Miller (Department for Energy Security & Net Zero). Attendees were once again reminded of the very real impact that upgrading homes has on occupants and the fight to eradicate fuel poverty in Wales.
A key topic was the link between good housing and good health, with Public Health Wales suggesting that for every £1 spent on upgrading a property, there is a £4 saving on healthcare due to 39% fewer hospital admissions for respiratory problems (or other conditions attributed to mould, cold and poor ventilation) from occupants of upgraded homes.
As a retrofit installer and contractor, it was a great chance to discuss with policy-makers the issues Evolve experience as a customer-facing part of the supply chain, and to help shape future schemes and funding streams, ensuring that those with the greatest need to have their home upgraded and improved are reached.
Laura Hannant, Marketing Director, said: “Hearing the difference that our work can make to people is humbling and reminds us of Evolve’s purpose to be a force for good and to deliver as many affordable warmth solutions to households as we can, using industry-leading technology and methods. The NEA Cymru Conference was a great chance to come together as an industry and strengthen the efforts to erradicate fuel poverty and hit Net Zero targets for the UK.”
