Green Homes Grant Scheme Update

We wanted to give you an update on the Green Homes Grant scheme as it gains more national coverage. You may have heard recently that the scheme has been extended to March 2022 meaning you have until then to obtain your vouchers and get the works completed.

For regular readers of our blog, you’ve probably seen us talk about it a bit already, but we thought it was worth going over some of the basics.

So, what is the Green Homes Grant scheme?

Green Homes Grant is a government voucher scheme which aims to improve the energy efficiency of homes in England. You can claim a voucher for up to two thirds of the costs of improvements to your home that could help you to reduce your carbon footprint and your energy bills and make your home warmer.

You may be able to receive a bigger grant if you are a homeowner and you or a member of your household receives one of the qualifying benefits. The government will cover 100% of the cost of the improvements up to £10,000.*

Am I eligible?

If you live in England, the answer is yes! The amount you can get funded is dependent on your personal situation but if you own a home in England you will be eligible for at least two thirds of the costs quoted. This handy tool from Simple Energy Advice will help you find out which improvement works you could get and how much you could get funded.

What works does the Green Homes Grant cover?

Following the link to the same questionnaire mentioned above, Simple Energy Advice will be able to tell you what measures are suitable for your home.  You will be able to get a voucher of up to £5000 – £10,000, dependant on your personal circumstances, and this can cover a Primary Measure which is Insulation or low carbon heating measures and, if you still have not used the full allowance you may be entitled to a secondary measure which covers things such as double glazing and draught proofing. It is important to mention you can not get a secondary measure without getting a primary measure installed first. A full list of what measures are covered by the vouchers are found here.
